Please look over this list of procedures and reminders, developed over our 30 years of installation experience, to help ensure a smooth installation, with minimal disruption to your home.
Thank you for choosing Petersen’s Carpet & Flooring!
For our and your complete confidence and peace of mind, you should know that all Petersen’s mechanics and apprentices are criminal background checked prior to employment. Also, our crews are enrolled throughout the year in continuing education classes/seminars to stay current with the latest products and installation methods.
Please be sure proper electric, lighting, ventilation, and adequate temperatures are available during the installation. There must be heat of some kind to maintain a temperature of at least 68 degrees, before, during and after the installation. Temporary heat will often void manufacturer’s warranties.
Please keep children and pets away from tools and workspaces to prevent injury or accidents. Pets should be secured prior to our arrival. The installers often need to go in and out frequently. Petersen’s cannot be held responsible for pets getting out of the home.
Petersen’s will move furniture for an extra charge. This should be discussed with your salesperson ahead of time. It is the customer’s responsibility to disconnect all electronics, strip bed linens, move china, breakables, knick-knacks, mirrors, books, etc prior to our arrival as well as have all closet floors empty with a clearance of 3’. Pool tables, pianos, safes and grandfather clocks require special handling. Extra charges will apply and must be arranged prior to install. Under no circumstances can we move waterbeds, sleep number beds, or aquariums. Please arrange to have these items out of the way ahead of time.
Petersen’s will remove and dispose of your old flooring for an extra charge. Under no circumstances can we handle insect infested flooring. Property must be exterminated before install. Heavily soiled flooring will be removed at an additional rate. Any flooring hauled away, that has been removed by customer, will be figured at the regular take up and disposal rate. Our installers cannot haul away wet carpet. If customer opts to do their own take up, they will need to discuss with salesperson what this entails (ie, removing carpet for a hard surface install requires that all tack strips and staples in subfloor also be removed.) Charges will apply for portions of take up completed by Petersen’s.
Although our installers take great care to minimize this, normal installations can result in some scuffing of baseboards and walls. Freshly painted walls and trim are more easily damaged. Please paint well in advance of your installation to allow time for the paint to fully cure. Petersen’s cannot be responsible for minor scuffing of walls and trim. Keep in mind, due to height changes of flooring and trim, paint lines may become visible where they were not before.
Petersen’s cannot be responsible for accidentally damaging wires behind door jams, baseboards, and under carpet, where they do not belong. If prior notice is given and specific locations are disclosed, we can likely avoid any accidental damage. Under no circumstances, can we place electrical wire under carpet, pad or around tack strip. This is a fire hazard.
Our installers will remove and replace interior doors only as necessary. If the bottom of the door needs to be trimmed to clear the new floor, a charge will apply. In some cases a separate crew may have to be sent out another day to complete the door cutting.
Please recognize that not all seams will be invisible. Carpet style (looped/berber), seam placement, texture, pattern, and lighting all affect how noticeable a seam may be. Petersen’s guarantees all seams will be professionally done in accordance with industry standards.
Dye lot variations may impact color match from sample to installed product or batch to batch. Customer agrees to accept color variations that fall within mill tolerances. Shading, shedding, fluffing, or reversal of pile are not installation or manufacturing defects, they are inherent characteristics of certain types of fibers.
If you have any questions, before, during or after your installation, please do not hesitate to call us: 301-698-4789. We will happily inspect any job, post-installation, if there’s a concern.
